With the aim to strengthen security on video calls, Zoom has incorporated the two-factor authentication to its video conferencing platform. The new security feature will allow users to authenticate their account with an additional layer of security, such as a one-time password, a prompt on a registered phone or device, or even voice or fingerprint. Zoom has been constantly working rigorously to upgrade its platform to be secure and error-free. Zoom introduced the 2FA security right after it enabled end-to-end encryption on its platform “Zoom’s 2FA within our unified communications platform provides a secure way to validate users and protect against security breaches,” said Zoom in a blog post.

Secure Infrastructure with Zoom 2FA
With the two-factor authentication, Zoom now has an improved and robust security infrastructure to help organisations not only deflect cracks, but also identity thefts. The step was taken as Zoom has become a soft target of malicious intruders who have started hijacking video meetings by breaking the passcode. The 2FA will prove to be a huge respite especially for the organisations as it prevents those hackers from taking control over the meeting as the two factor authentication adds another layer of security.

Zoom says the two-factor authentication helps them “meet compliance obligations” that is obligatory for confidential or sensitive information being exchanged on the platform. This way, the customer information will also remain“private” with Zoom’s new security method. The added security step will also provide schools and small businesses a tool to prevent security breaches or hacks, and thus will cut the cost spent for SSO services.

Enabling Zoom 2FA (Two-Factor Authentication)
Zoom has enabled several types of two factor authentication on its platform to meet the growing demands. It allows users to choose one from SAML, OAuth, and/or password-based authentication. The two-factor authentication can be enabled by following these steps:
Sign in to the Zoom DashboardClick Advanced, then Security in the navigation menuPlease ensure the Sign in with Two-Factor Authentication option is enabled. Remember, only the admin can enable this setting
Select one of these options to enable 2FA for:
All users in your account: Enable 2FA for all users in the account.Users with specific roles: Enable 2FA for roles with the specified roles. Click Select specified roles, choose the roles, then click OK.Users belonging to specific groups: Enable 2FA for users that are in the specified groups. Click the pencil icon, choose the groups, then click OK.
