The good! With a 6.4-inch Full HD screen, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra is huge and sleek, almost like a slab of black marble. Extra brownie points for it being waterproof too! The aluminium frame and the all-glass front makes it all the more sturdy and reliable. On the performance front, there are no complaints, thanks to the 2.2GHz quad-core Krait 400 Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage. The screen with its vibrant colours is sharp even at obtuse angles making it perhaps one of the best portable movie players ever. And the not so good! The looks of the otherwise premium Sony Xperia Z Ultra are marred by the plastic flaps that cover the micro USB port, the SIM and the memory card slots. More importantly, they don’t seal back tightly with usage that puts the waterproof feature at a high risk. Another disappointing bit is the battery life which is just around 11 hours. The worst part of this device though is the camera that lacks a flash, which is quite flabbergasting for something that costs a bomb. Added to this is that the amera functions well in the daylight but not in the dark when it fails to focus properly. Should you buy it? If you are hell bent on buying something that is big in size, go ahead and buy the Sony Xperia Ultra Z but only after looking at it in a store and keeping in mind the cheap flaps on the side, below-average battery life and a shoddy camera. Remember caveat emptor applies here…very strongly!
