The Fixed Mobile Telephony (FMT) service was introduced by the government-owned telecom operator BSNL, allowing customers to connect to their fixed landline in home or office through a mobile application to make calls through. This has been in place for a couple of years now, starting in 2016. In order to use it, mobile phones too need to have a BSNL connection though. “Under FMT, we have virtually turned fixed lines into mobiles. Now, BSNL customers will be able to seamlessly connect their fixed line phone and mobile phone through a BSNL mobile application.” stated the Chairman-cum-Managing Director Anupam Shrivastava, BSNL. “We are working on tariff for this add-on service. It will be fixed charge on a monthly basis for both prepaid and post-paid customers. However, customers will have to pay call rates as per the network they use.” (Via Datareign)
How to Connect Cordless Phone to BSNL Landline
In order to facilitate this, the BSNL FMT mobile application needs to be downloaded on the mobile phone, followed by registering the BSNL number with the service. Users can then use the mobile to make calls by connecting with the fixed landline connection from virtually anywhere in the world. The tariff system applicable on this service means that there is a monthly charge, and it is only the call rate of the network being used that is applicable. So when a customer uses the landline network to make calls, the landline plan rates are applicable. In case a mobile network is being used to make calls, the mobile plan charges are applicable. This Fixed Mobile Telephony service is also being extended for customers of other telecom networks, meaning that a mobile connection with any Indian telecom operator can easily connect to their BSNL landline connection via the FMT to make calls.
